Assessing tree effect on total soil carbon in agroforestry parklands systems along a rainfall gradient in Burkina Faso (West Africa)

چکیده
Trees contribution in improving soil carbon is well established, but few works addressed how this was affected by a climatic gradient. This research investigated effects of Vitellaria paradoxa C. F Gaertn and Parkia biglobosa (Jacq.) Benth on total parklands along rainfall gradient for recommendations tree species which better improve under specific conditions adaptation to climate change. Total at topsoil subsoil layers measured using spectrophotometry infrared method, higher when increased were respectively (1.598 ± 0.040; 1.033 0.022; 0.834 0.014; 0.857 0.016%). It (0.529 0.015%) (0.282 0.019%) V. decreased while it P. slightly. Its improvement increased. A decrease trend both from trunk outside the canopy whatever levels observed. Tree choice could play an important role crop productivity according level

Population genetics of abnormal haemoglobins in Burkina Faso, west Africa.
The gene frequencies of haemoglobin A (HbA), HbS and HbC were studied in Burkina-Faso (BF) and in a neighbouring region of Niger, Ayorou. The frequency of HbS was higher in the Sahel region, (northern part of BF and Ayorou) than in the Savanna region. The reverse was true for the HbC gene. The major findings of this study are: (a) confirmation of a peak of HbC gene frequency in the central regi...
متن کاملThe effect of trees on preferential flow and soil infiltrability in an agroforestry parkland in semiarid Burkina Faso
Water scarcity constrains the livelihoods of millions of people in tropical drylands. Tree planting in these environments is generally discouraged due to the large water consumption by trees, but this view may neglect their potential positive impacts on water availability. The effect of trees on soil hydraulic properties linked to groundwater recharge is poorly understood. In this study, we per...
متن کاملImpact of pre-analytical factors on mycobacterium cultures contaminations rates in Burkina Faso, West Africa
INTRODUCTION For a high quality level diagnosis, mycobacterium culture must comply with the pre-analytical and analytical conditions recommended by the WHO and the country National Tuberculosis Program (NTP). In this study, we determined whether temperature and duration of sputum storage were associated with culture contamination in Burkina Faso. METHODS Sputa were collected in 5 districts la...

This article describes two datasets generated from various sources in south western Burkina Faso to identify the key climate and environmental drivers that cause farmers to migrate. The survey sampling is random but reasoned and rational. The first dataset from 367 farm households contains data on farmers' perception of climate change risks or hazards, their impacts on farmland productivity and...

Background: In Burkina Faso, malnutrition is a public health problem. Despite the significant drop in the prevalence of malnutrition since 2009 according to the Directorate of Nutrition, malnutrition is still a major concern with regard to its consequences. The objective of this study was to determine the factors associated with acute malnutrition in children aged 6 to 59 months in the Sabou He...
